MWC Needs To Go

I have been a defenseless victim of the Mountain Network since its inception on September 1, 2006. It is by far the worst sporting network on cable television. There is no HD, they have ignorant commentators, a spineless chairman, and horrible pay out to its schools. It is no wonder all the schools in the conference are abandoning ship.

When my little ears heard today that TCU may be moving to the Big East, I was ecstatic. It was like sugar on my tongue. With the departure of Utah, BYU, and possibly TCU, I see no reason for the MWC to stay around. Who wants to watch UNLV vs UNM? Not me, and I think 99.9% of the nation would agree with me.

Let me just run a quick fact past you to tickle your brain. Each year, the MWC television deal pays its schools 1.5 million dollars. In 2014, BYU will be playing West Virginia in Washington D.C.;payout: 2.5 million. There are hundreds of examples like this that show how asinine being part of the MWC is.

Lastly, if TCU is leaving the conference, I have a proposition: I would gather BYU, Utah, TCU, BSU, Nevada, Fresno, UNM, UNLV, Kansas, Kansas St, Air Force, and one other team, and create a supper conference. This would most likely ensure an automatic BCS bid, be very competitive in all other sports, and they could make even more money by starting their own network. I know BYU has great HD equipment that they would most likely let the conference use. Let's get rid of Independence, the Pac 12, Wac, MWC, and create a new, improved, dominating conference.

Reggie Bush Highlights

People are saying Reggie was not good enough for the Heisman. Just a kind reminder that admist all the controversy, he is still the best RB in the history of college f-ball.

Take Her With You!

This weekend was awesome. I had a great time with my wife, and I was able to soak in a lot of college football. I learned something this weekend that will help all of us out. Most of the time we think of football as male bonding time, junk food, and a lot of yelling. Not the ideal situation for the females, but they still can have fun too.

This past Saturday, I was getting ready to go to the game. As luck would have it, I had an extra ticket. Most of the time, I would think about which buddy I could take to enjoy the game with. As I pulled out my phone, my eyes beheld the most beautiful sight in the world: my wife. How could I leave her home alone? Isn't the smell of her perfume better than the sweaty fat guy next to me? Obviously the question is rehtorical.

When I was reminded of how fun, beautiful, and amazing my wife was, I asked her if she wanted to go to the game. Usually whenever I ask her she says no; this time she said yes! I was stoked. We put on our game shirts, grabbed the tickets, and were off to the stadium.

To be honest, this was the best game of the year. College football is one of the best feelings in the world, but the wife can enhance that feeling ten fold. While the sun was beating on us, I was cheering as loud as I could, my wife pretended to be interested, but I think she was happier about her tan. All I can say is, boyz, occassionally invite your wife to go with you. Hardly ever will they actually want to go, but when they do, it is a sweet experience.

I Was Wrong

Pretty good day of football today. Although I was wrong with the outcome of about every game. It is too bad that Arkansas could not pull off the upset today, and where in the world did UCLA come from? Is this a dawn of a new era for the Bruins? Or is it just a stroke of early season luck?

I have always been a Boise hater, but I think they have proven enough to be considered legitimate. It is unfortunate how the BCS system works, however. Even if they go undefeated, I don't think that they will get into the BCS Championship. I hope they do, but if there are two other undefeated teams, BSU will get the shaft. Although, I would be watching out for Nevada.

Still love Saturday. The smell of hot dogs, the feeling of sweat dripping off of my face, and the taste and feel of a cold drink going down the throat is priceless. There is not a better time of the year. Hopefully all of you men out there are treating your ladies right, giving you the opportunity to enjoy the season.

Upset Alert

There are some interesting games tomorrow. I hope all you men out there did your homework this week, so your pretty lady allows you to watch a few hours of television tomorrow. Looking at tomorrow's lineup, I think there is a possibility of a few upsets. It would not surprise me to see a few teams drop out of the top ten after tomorrow.

The first possible upset is BSU vs OSU. Boise State looked pretty good against Va Tech, but we quickly found out that Va Tech was over-rated. The Beavers have a talented RB who could have a break out game tomorrow. Boise will have to bring their game tomorrow, or they could see their hopes of a BCS National Championship go out the window.

I smell an upset with Nortre Dame and Standford. ND has had some tough losses this year, but Coach Kelly knows how to prepare for the big games. I am calling the upset on this, and predict that ND will win in the fourth quarter.

Lastly, BYU is a slight underdog vs. Nevada. I just hope with the new QB situation, BYU brings some offense tomorrow and begins to salvage this season.

Pitt Is Overrated

The Panthers have shown that pre-season rankings are meaningless. At the beginning of the season Pittsburgh was ranked 15. They are now 1-2, and will probably finish the season with 7 wins at best.

Their running backs this year were supposed to be incredible. In my opinion, they are horrible. In three games they just barely have over 200 yards rushing combined. This was a team that was supposed to be a contender for winning the Big East and possibly a BCS Bowl. College football changes quickly, and it only takes a few weeks to sift the wheat from the tares.

The reason that Pitt leaves such a bad taste in my mouth, is because it makes Utah look incredible again. This is not the case. I think Utah is overrated, the only credibility they have is beating a poor Pitt team. I can't wait until November when Utah actually has to play legitimate teams. For all of you saying they are going to bust the BCS again this year--not going to happen. I predict at least two loses for the Utes in November and third place in the MWC.

What's So Great About Going to the Games?

There is something magic about going to the games. Walking into the stadium is a spiritual experience. You walk on hollowed ground reminiscing about the epic battles of the past, and begin to ponder about the future for this game. There is a type of happiness and comradery that can only be found in a football stadium. If somebody is wearing the same color as you, or cheering for the same team as you, an instant bond is created. For the next four hours, you and that person are like long lost friends.

On the contrary, if somebody is rooting for the other team, you despise that person's very being-- no matter how similar you may be. Nothing is off limits as you begin to make fun of his premature balding, his ugly girlfriend, or even how ridiculous he looks in his overly-tight muscle shirt; but that is football. It brings out the best and worst of all of us.

Yet, there is something deeper than all of that. The feeling is indescribable when you can smell the fresh cut grass, hear the clash of helmets, see the team sprinting onto the field, and feel the sun beating on your face. These sensations bring men back to the days when they were referred to as athletes. For a few brief moments during the game, they return to the day when they too could run fast, throw far, and hit hard. Since that is no longer possible, they continue to live vicariously through the players and come out to support the team on GAME DAY.

If You Can Cook, You Can Watch Football

Gentleman, it is all about planning. If we know that there are big games on Saturday, then we need to prepare before hand. It is just like football, the coaches don't start preparing for the game the day of, they start preparing the minute the last game is over; we need to follow this pattern.We can not tell our wife on Saturday that there are five games we want to watch. I have only been married a short time and I already know this doesn't work, and it will usually do more harm than good. It is all about buttering up the wife before Saturday which will ensure your perfect score.

My second experiment took place this week. My wife does not really enjoy cooking, but she is a trooper and is always willing to cook. Friday nights, I get off of work at 7, and my wife gets out of school at 8. While I was driving home, I started to brainstorm on what I could do to watch the games the next day.A stroke of brilliance came. I decided that I would make date night on Friday.

When she returned home from school, I had a romantic Italian dinner ready: my delicious spaghetti, garlic break, salad, and fresh peaches. When she walked in the door she was surprised, relieved, and grateful that she did not have to cook and we didn't have to spend money on take out.

Most of you men would stop at this point and think you ensured a victory: YOU"RE WRONG. You can't stop with dinner, that is like your wife letting you watch the game until half time. You have to take it to the next level, guys. When dinner was over, I knew that the way to my wife's heart was through ice cream. We jumped in the car, got some ice cream, grabbed a red box, and cuddled on the couch (yeah, I am not afraid to admit I like cuddling). It was actually a great night. Date night for the week was accomplished and I still had Saturday to enjoy football.

The next morning my wife asked me if I would like to go run some errands. I told her that I had some homework and asked if she would be willing do them alone this time. She was fine with that, and then she asked if I would run over to her friends with her. I nervously answered that I didn't want to go. Usually she bugs me and gives a guilt trip for this, but she was okay with it this time and was out the door. It all goes back to the ice cream boyz. Find your wife's sweet spot, surprise her with something out of the ordinary, and once again you will have the perfect score!

BYU Got Its Answer

After watching another rough loss for BYU, I think it became apparent to everyone watching that having two QBs is not effective. It is hard for the team to get in sync and difficult for the receivers to adjust to the different arm actions of the QBs-- not to mention it is extremely annoying for the fans.

In my amateur opinion, you have to play St. Jake. He is the future of the program and it is necessary to develop the Freshman now. He fits the program better, throws the ball better, and is an overall better QB. I think Nelson is a great QB, but he just does not fit BYU's scheme. After seeing Heaps play the whole second half, delivering some nice balls, and making some impressive drives against a fast FSU defense, I think it is safe to assume that he will be the starter for BYU. Hopefully now that the QB situation is figured out, the team will begin to gel and will still pull of a decent season. 1-3 is not the way anyone wanted to start out, but at least there have been some encouraging improvements.

On a side note, BYU's receivers have to start making some plays; once again there were way too many dropped balls. The defense looked a little better, but they have to stop allowing the big plays. All in all, a loss is a loss, but there were some definite improvements this week.

Tomorrows Predictions

Tomorrow's college football is a little dull. I do not see too many possible upsets for tomorrow's games, but there are a few that I would keep my eye on. The first game that grabs my attention is the OU vs AFA. OU struggled against Utah State, and after watching the Cadets embarrass BYU last week, I would not be surprised if the Sooners had some problems with Air force. I am not calling the upset, but I will say the game will be within 10 points.

The only other possible upset that I can possibly see is Arizona Vs. Iowa. Arizona in the past has pulled of some impressive wins. The coaches usually do their homework and it will be interesting to see how Iowa can deal with the passing attack that Arizona has. If Iowa's DBs overlook, or don't come ready to play tomorrow, I am predicting an upset. I will go out on a limb here and say the Wildcats by 3.

I am excited to see the Trojans play, and I believe that it will be a blow out. Also, I hope to see BYU bounce back after that humiliating loss last week. They are going to be playing in a hostile environment down in Tallahassee, but I hope they at least give the Seminoles a game. Last year BYU was trounced, in Provo, by Florida State; I hope they still have a bitter taste in their mouth and come out fighting early tomorrow, or it could be a long day for the Cougs. All said and done, College Game Day is less than 12 hours a way. It's going to be a great day tomorrow, I have been workin on the wife, and I hope experiment #2 works. We shall see tomorrow. . .

Shopping Spree= Day of college football!

My first post I mentioned how this blog was going to be an experiment on how I could watch college football and still stay happily married. Last Saturday, I successfully accomplished my first experiment.

I woke up fairly early in the morning, because I needed to finish some homework before the games began. There were three main games that I wanted to see: FSU vs. OU, BYU vs. AF, ND vs. UM, and then I figured if I got lucky, I could maybe squeeze in a little bit of USC. As I thought about those four games, I realized the chances of seeing all of them were slim to none.

Luckily for me, three of those games started around the same time. After I was done with my homework, I started to plan how I would convince my wife to let me sit on the couch for the next three to five hours. I started to think about my wife's hobbies, and the first one that came to my head was her passion for spending our money. I quickly realized that if I told her to go get some new clothes, a rare experience for her since we are poor, she would vanish like the wind and I would have the next few hours to myself.

As she came back from the gym, I told her about a bonus I received at work and that I wanted her to use that money to go buy some clothes. She was ecstatic. She quickly got ready, called her sister, and she was out the door in less than twenty minutes. I finally received sweet freedom.

For the next three hours, I did not move. I was filled with the ecstasy that only college football can bring. Once the games I wanted to see were over, I got ready to go on our date. By this time I realized that seeing the SC game was slim to none. As luck would have it, the Trojans did not begin playing until later that night. When we got home from our date, I was still able to catch the second half and my beautiful wife did not complain once; she was too busy looking at her new clothes. Gentleman, that is what I call the perfect score.

Poor Reggie

There is only one thing that my wife gets jealous about: USC Football. She claims that the happiest day of my life was not our marriage, but the 2006 Rose Bowl that I attended. I have to admit, there is just something about Trojan football: the tradition, the atmosphere, the band, the alumni, and the fact their home games are played at the Colosseum. That is why when the allegations came out against USC, it broke my heart.

I have to admit that I have a little bit of a man crush on Reggie Bush. His speed is uncanny, his moves are ridiculous, and he basically is everything I wanted to be as a football player (except the whole taking money thing in college). It saddens me that he gave back his Heisman yesterday. I realize that what he did was wrong, but can anyone deny that he was the most dominant college football player that year? Does taking money to help family make him a better football player? I am not a fickle fan, I still am the biggest Reggie supporter there is, it is just a shame the way it all went down.

Making the Perfect Score

College Football is one of the greatest times of the year. It is filled with pageantry, BBQs, and countless hours in front of the television. There is usually one thing that prevents college enthusiasts from being able to capitalize on this season: the wife.

This is my first college football season being married, and I can already see how the wife can interfere with a typical guy's Saturday. There are usually errands to run, dishes to clean, family to visit, and of course date night. Females don't realize that from September to January we really only want one thing: football. The question is how far do we take it? Do we skip date night? Lay down the law and tell her that we will watch whatever game we want? People who have tried doing this are no longer married-- or at least not happily.

There has to be a way that the wife can be happy, and we can still enjoy Kirk Herbstreit and Lee Corso on College Game Day. I have decided to dedicate this blog as guidelines to married college football enthusiasts around the nation who want to enjoy the season and stay happily married. Men we are going to find the perfect score . . . we'll watch all the college games we want, while still scoring points with the wifey.

If any of you men out there have any experiences or advice on how we can use the couch to watch games, but not as a bed, please tell and let all of us benefit from this time of year.
